ZION PARK DISTRICT ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

Statement of Purpose
The Zion Park District is a unit of local government located in Zion, IL whose primary purpose is to acquire, own, maintain, and operate its public parks, open spaces, and facilities. The Park District also offers to its residents a wide variety of recreational programs and special events. These programs are offered both on a no charge and program fee basis.

Functional Subdivisions/Departments
The chart below illustrates the functional departments of the Zion Park District. The Board of Park Commissioners is a five member board, which sets the organizational tone of the Park District and approves policies to further its purpose. Each member is elected by the voters of the Zion Park District to a six-year term.

The Director of Parks & Recreation acts as the chief executive officer with responsibility for directing the day-to-day operations of the District.

Employees
The Zion Park District has 21 full-time employees and during its peak summer season, approximately 200 part-time employees.

Total Compensation Package Information
Pursuant to the requirements of 5 ILCS 120/7.3, the Zion Park District has made available at our Administrative Office, located at 2400 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, Illinois, a list of all employees having a total compensation package that exceeds $75,000 per year.  For the purpose of this statute, Total Compensation includes salary, vehicle allowance, insurance, vacation days and sick days.

Advisory Boards and Committees
The Zion Park District is governed by a five-member Board of Park Commissioners. These five individuals are all members of the District’s Personnel & Finance Committee.
