The Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Zion Park District have found infestations of Gypsy Moths throughout Shiloh Park. The Gypsy Moth is an insect that in caterpillar stage can do tremendous damage to Oak Trees by feeding on their leaves. If uncontrolled, they can destroy all the Oaks in the park.
It has been determined that an aerial spray by helicopter will help control the Gypsy Moth. Spraying will take place in May or June, depending on weather conditions.
