Shiloh Park Master Plan

The Zion Park District is excited to announce that construction has started on the redevelopment of Shiloh Park! The Park Board of Commissioners approved the park’s master plan and low bid in November 2023. A total of nearly one million dollars in external grants will be utilized to fund the renovations, which are expected to be completed this fall.

Monday, March 4th, crews began removing the old basketball and tennis courts. The new court area will include two tennis courts, four pickleball courts, a full basketball court and a half court. Additional amenities in that area will include concrete gaming tables for checkers, ping-pong and baggo along with a shade shelter, park benches, new landscaping and a pollinator garden. To fund this portion of the project, the Park District received a $400,000 grant from the IL Department of Natural Resources (IDNR OSLAD).

Once the courts are completed, construction crews will make their way west to the playground. As part of the Park District’s mission to advance play and recreation, the playground will include an area for 2-5 year-olds and 5-12 year-olds. The equipment selected provides an assortment of features that meet the diverse physical, social-emotional, sensory, and cognitive needs of all children, including those with disabilities. It will be an exciting playground for all to enjoy! Funding for the playground was obtained from multiple sources. State Representative Joyce Mason secured $400,000 from the IL Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). Additionally, the District received $141,417 from playground manufacturer, GameTime, as part of the Illinois Parks & Recreation Association (IPRA) playground funding initiative.

The final phases of the project will include a dedicated swing area for all ages and abilities; consisting of traditional, intergenerational, bucket, and ADA swings. Finally, the outdoor shelter close to the park will be replaced with a new 30×36 wood shelter and surrounding BBQ grills.
