Spongy (Gypsy) Moth Spray Treatments

The Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Zion Park District have found infestations of Spongy Moths throughout Shiloh Park. Spongy Moth is an insect that in the caterpillar stage can do tremendous damage to oak trees by feeding on their leaves. If uncontrolled, they can destroy all the oaks in the park.
It has been determined that spraying from ground level will help control the Spongy Moth. Spraying will take place between June 4, 2025 and July 7, 2025, depending on weather conditions. The chemical used is low risk for humans and has been ruled as inert by the EPA. If you get chemical on your skin or clothes it can be washed off with mild soap.
