Spongy Moth Spray by Helicopter

Spongy Moth Spray by Helicopter

The Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Zion Park District have previously found infestations of Spongy Moths (formerly known as the Gypsy Moth) throughout Shiloh Park. The Spongy Moth is an insect that in caterpillar stage can do tremendous damage to oak trees by feeding on their leaves. If uncontrolled, they can destroy all the oaks in the park.
It has been determined that an aerial spray by helicopter will help control the Spongy Moth. Spraying will take place between April 25, 2026 and June 1, 2026 depending on weather conditions.
